ALFREDA DENSON-BUTLER

Founder and 
Executive Director

Alfreda Denson-Butler is a native of Jacksonville, FL and a Rattler through and through, who bleeds orange and green. She graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and minor in Criminal Justice, 1990. Also, a proud William Marion Raines High School alumnus Class of 1986, where she made her mark and excelled in track and field.
 

Alfreda has been actively involved as a Life Member of J.R.E. Lee (Jacksonville) FAMU Alumni Chapter, currently serving as the Financial Secretary; FAMU NAA Fundraising Committee Member, JRE Lee Alumni Jacksonville Chapter Membership Committee Member; voted Chapter Member of the Year 2023; past roles include Co-Chair for Special Projects supporting seasoned members aged 65 and older
during the pandemic; Gala 2019 committee liaison; Jazz Brunch/Fashion Show coordinator; FAMU National Alumni Association Florida Region Conference 2020 Greeter Co-chair, just to name a few. Alfreda is an active Life Member of Jacksonville Section-National Council of Negro Women, selected Purple Rose Member of the Year 2021-2022, and served as the Treasurer and Financial Secretary. Because of her outstanding leadership involvement at the local community level volunteering, she Founded the Al Denson Foundation, Inc. whose mission is to provide financial support to student athletes interested in attending historically black colleges and universities, and/or certification programs, and assist students with SAT/ACT tutoring (voucher).


Today, Alfreda diligently serves as the Exceptional Student Education Support Teacher ensuring students with disabilities receive a Free and Appropriated Public Education in Duval County Public Schools at Mattie V. Rutherford Alternative School. She serves as the school’s Sunshine/Hospitality Chair, where she has sought grant funding from prospective business partners to provide incentives for faculty and
staff. In addition, Alfreda serves as the Professional Development Facilitator, generating courses and workshops appropriate for teacher development; serves as the Duval Teacher United Building Representative/Board Member sitting on various committees (negotiations, calendar, interview).


She has accumulated multiple awards and recognition such as most recently and three peat awardee, Teacher of the Year 2020-2021(MVR), Teacher of the Year 2019-2020 (MVR), and Teacher of the Year 2014-2015 (YWLA). She was awarded, from JPEF (Jacksonville Public Education Fund), 2021 EDDY Awards “Powering Potential” Award and was bestowed a $500 Classroom Grant. A true humanitarian
and dedicated to public service, Alfreda demonstrates commitment and dedication to education and working to improve the lives of children and their families. She works tirelessly for social change with her steadfast involvement and volunteerism with non-profits, Blessing Others All the Time, Inc., Pearls of Perfection, Inc., and American Cancer Society.
