Alfreda Denson-Butler is a native of Jacksonville, FL. She is a graduate of both William Marion Raines H.S(1986) and Florida A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and minor in Criminal Justice, 1990.
Alfreda, actively involved as a Life Member of J.R.E. Lee (Jacksonville) FAMU Alumni Chapter, served as the Financial Secretary (2022-2025); FAMU NAA Fundraising Committee Member, JRE Lee Alumni Jacksonville Chapter Membership Committee Member; voted Chapter Member of the Year 2023; past roles include Co-Chair for Special Projects supporting seasoned members aged 65 and older during the pandemic; 2019 Gala committee liaison; FAMU National Alumni Association Florida Region Conference 2020 Greeter Co-chair. Alfreda is an active Life Member of Jacksonville Section-National Council of Negro Women, selected Purple Rose Member of the Year 2021-2022, and served as the Treasurer and Financial Secretary, and active member of the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Because of her outstanding leadership involvement at the local community level volunteering and giving back, she founded the Al Denson Foundation, Inc.
Today, Alfreda diligently serves as the Fully Released Varying Exceptionalities Support Teacher ensuring students with disabilities receive a Free and Appropriate Public Education in Duval County Public Schools at Mattie V. Rutherford Alternative School. She served as the Duval Teacher United Building Representative 2019-2025 and the school’s Sunshine/Hospitality Chair, where she sought grant funding from prospective business partners to provide incentives for faculty and staff. She, currently, serves as the Professional Development Facilitator, generating courses and workshops appropriate for teacher development and certification purposes, and DTU Board Member, sitting on various committees (negotiation, calendar, interview).
She has accumulated multiple awards and recognition such as Teacher of the Year 2020-2021(MVR), Teacher of the Year 2019-2020 (MVR), and Teacher of the Year 2014-2015 (YWLA). She was awarded, from JPEF (Jacksonville Public Education Fund), at 2021 EDDY Awards “Powering Potential” Award and bestowed a $500 Classroom Grant. A true humanitarian and dedicated to public service, Alfreda demonstrates commitment and dedication to education and working to improve the lives of children and their families. She works tirelessly for social change with her steadfast involvement and volunteerism with non-profits, Blessing Others All the Time, Inc., Pearls of Perfection, Inc., and American Cancer Society.
